Pine Block Boards

Pine Block Boards – A Product of House of Doors

House of Doors also manufactures Pine Block Boards. We make the core of these block boards from solid blocks of Pinewood. (Manufacturers obtain these rectangular elongated blocks/strips from a softwood tree to make the block boards.). The entire block board core is formed by arranging all these small blocks end to end, and they are almost the same size.. As in the case of plywood, the manufacturers bond/glue a top and bottom veneer (layer of wooden ply) over these blocks to form the faces/surfaces. These Pine boards also come in two grades such as MR grade and BWR grade.

Plywood and Pine Block board are two distinct and separate things. The differences between these two types of engineered woods are:-

  • Difference in composition, and the way they are made.

Manufacturers commonly use plywood to make wooden furniture by using several thin sheets of individual wood veneers (layers/slices of wood). Manufacturers firmly press and join all these layers with each other to make a plywood sheet.. If manufacturers obtain all the layers of wood from a Neem tree, then they call it Neem Plywood.

Manufacturers make the core of block boards from solid blocks of Pinewood, which are rectangular elongated blocks/strips obtained from a softwood tree. They arrange all these small blocks end to end to form the entire block board core, and they are almost the same size.

  • Difference in the way they are used.

While plywood suits most furniture making requirements, it tends to sag or bend when using very lengthy pieces. In such cases, manufacturers prefer using block boards over plywood.

Manufacturers prefer block boards over plywood for furniture such as long tables and benches that require longer pieces of wood and will bear some load. Other common uses of block board include making of doors, panels, and partitions.

Difference in material.

Manufacturers make good quality MR Grade and BWP plywood using hardwood veneers, which are denser and heavier than softwood. They consider hardwood a stronger and more durable material than softwood.. An example of hardwood is Neem wood, Eucalyptus Wood or Gurjan wood.

Block boards usually have a core made of softwood blocks (for example the wood of a pine tree) sandwiched between hardwood veneers. Sometimes two veneers are used on either side to make the block board stronger. The softwood core makes the board lighter in weight, and still the use of solid wooden blocks ensures that the board is strong enough to withstand a substantial amount of load.
